Genoa is an intelligent and beautiful teen girl living on a sailboat with her father, mother, younger brother and dog. In her secret places under the docks, she receives mysterious messages scratched into the wood from the people of Astraea, a planet within a galaxy somewhere in the universe. Genoa soon discovers that she is the one chosen to help solve the problems causing devastation on Astraea. Through the guidance of wise ones and chance encounters with others like herself, she is transported in unbelievable ways to places one only dreams of. Her experiences are dangerous, exciting, and definitely life-changing.
About the authors
When most people write a story, they pull from their own experiences. As you read Genoa's Passage, you will gain insight into the life experiences of my sister and I. Kass lived on a sailboat for seven years, island hopping and docking in various ports along the way. On one of those stops, she met a girl who also lived on a sailboat with her family. The girl took her by the hand and showed Kass her secret spots under the eaves of the docks. Her name was Genoa ~ hence, the name of our main character. Kass has no idea where she is now, but we both hope the book finds its way to her.
I attended WVU and majored in Special Education. My first teaching experience was on the Navajo Reservation. I actually lived with the children in a dormitory for a segment of that time. I had a chance to live the life of the Navajo, through a "Bilagáana's" eyes. During this time, I met a boy who was a loner, but somehow connected with me. He is my inspiration for Honza, the Native American boy in the story. The name, Honza, actually came from a young yoga master that lived in Raleigh. He transitioned from earth in an unfortunate accident.
One of the prominent characters in the book, Dani, is modeled after our brother, Dan; one of the kindest, gentlest souls on the planet.

Kass lives in Port Townsend, WA with her husband Doug, and two dogs, Dave and Etta.
Jessica lives in Wake Forest, NC with her husband Stan, three dogs - Nova, Tara, and Anya, and one cat named Repea. She teaches middle school Special Ed.

Genoa's Passage takes the reader on an exciting adventure where he visits other-wordly places and meets fun characters. A message of the need to live in balance in order to protect and heal our planet is interwoven into the adventure.
I loved this book, it had alot of an environmental background that makes you think how you use the Earth and all of its resources, and was alot of fun! I recommend this to anyone that loves a great escape that is really fun and refreshing!
This is a beautiful book that grabs hold of your imagination from the onset. I read it in one session. The character development is excellent, accompanied by a fantastic story that resonates strongly with anyone who is paying attention to the events unfolding in today's world. The descriptive writing style of Genoa's journey and adventures was very impressive. A fine read for adults as well as adolescents.
